Saturday 12 June 2004

HITCHIN,
HERTFORDSHIRE

You are invited to the 14th Shapers Singing Day when we will sing from Northern Harmony, New Essex Harmony and new, unpublished or self-published writing. Don't hide your musical light under a bushel - this is your opportunity to try out with a group of real singers those songs you have been writing. We have already found some modern gems - yours could be one of them!

We will meet in the Friends Meeting House in Hitchen.

Time

11.00am - 4.30pm. Doors open 10.30am

Venue

Hitchin Friends Meeting House, Paynes Park, Hitchin, Herts (directions from Steve Fletcher)

Refreshments

Hot and cold drinks will be available all day. NB Only closed containers of plain water are allowed in the Meeting Room.

Lunch

Please bring a cold dish to share, sweet or savour

Curry or 'Chinese' workshop

All welcome. 7pm at a suitable establishment. It would be a big help to have some idea of numbers in advance so that I can make a provisional table booking. Confirm on the day.

No need to book, but phone messages, e-mails or postcards in advance much appreciated

Cost

The hat will be passed round to cover expenses

Directions

Hitchin Friends Meeting House is on the corner of Bedford Road and Paynes Park, on the one way system to the west of Hitchin Town Centre. You can get into this triangle from several directions:

· from Stevenage, the south and east (A602 from A1M), follow signs for A600 Bedford

· from Luton and the west (A505 from M1)

· from Bedford and the north (A600)

· from Letchworth and all points north and east follow the A505 through Hitchin towards Luton

From all directions you will arrive at a roundabout by Hitchin Library and Museum, signposted to Luton, Stevenage and Bedford. This is at the southern end of the one-way triangle. I suggest you plan for at least a couple of circuits to spot the Meeting House and to find the entrance to the car park. Just keep in the right-hand lane and keep going clockwise until you are confident of finding both!

In case of difficulty, I will leave my mobile phone on until 11am, so call me on 07976 605692 and I will try to talk you in.

Car parking

There is NO parking on site. The surface car parks nearest the Meeting House are seriously expensive and best avoided. I suggest the Lairage Shoppers Car Park (shares its entrance with Safeway) or the long stay car park in Charlton Road (5 minutes walk) which each cost £2 all day.

Trains

Trains run from Kings Cross to Hitchin. The railway station is about 15 minutes' walk from the venue
